Bas Konuş Bırak Dinle is the evolution of the ensemble Bir Şeyler Eksik, shaped by vocalist Çağıl Kaya and saxophonist Tamer Temel. While carrying forward the spirit of its predecessor, the ensemble ventures into new territories, exploring the act of listening, responding, and co-creating.
Named after a composition by Kaya, Bas Konuş Bırak Dinle translates to Push Speak Release Listen — and holds the distinction of being the first of its kind with Turkish lyrics.
Now joined by piano alongside vocals, horns, bass, and drums, the ensemble’s harmonic palette grows richer, more layered, more provocative, more grounded. The piano adds a new dimension to the sound: at times architectural, at times intentionally disruptive. The result is a deeper, more dynamic interplay.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Wayne Shorter, Esperanza Spalding, Steve Coleman, David Binney, and Gretchen Parlato, the group weaves together elements of contemporary jazz, spoken word, groove-based improvisation grounded in the M-Base tradition, and flashes of rap. The sound world they create is rooted in intentional dialogue, curiosity, and collective energy.
It is political without preaching, emotional without sentimentality, and intellectual, not in isolation, but in relation and in motion. It invites us to think together, feel together, and above all, to listen.
