Bibi Tanga and the Selenites •

Since 2008, Bibi Tanga & The Selenites have captivated audiences worldwide with their retro-futuristic sound, blending funk, soul, Afrobeat, and hip-hop.

Led by Bibi Tanga, a Central African Republic-born bassist and vocalist (b. 1969, Bangui), the Paris-based quintet infuses African rhythms with influences from Curtis Mayfield, Fela Kuti, and James Brown.

Tanga’s global upbringing—spanning Moscow, Paris, Washington, DC, and New York—shapes their eclectic style, sung in French, English, and Sango.

With over 200 electrifying performances in global hubs like Paris, New York, Dakar, Mumbai, London, and Istanbul, the band masterfully weaves a hypnotic groove that fuses festive energy with introspective depth, captivating thousands with their infectious tracks, including “Red Wine,” “My Heart Is Jumping,” “Be Africa,” and “Poet of the Soul.”

Their fourth album, The Same Tree (following Yellow Gauze [2006], Dunya [2009], 40% of Sunshine [2012], and O Paraiso [2022]), showcases their hybrid funk, blending each member’s musical DNA into a danceable, mesmerizing sound.

From Asia to Africa, Europe to America, Bibi Tanga & The Selenites continue to orbit the global music scene with their unique sonic alloy.
