During their year in Basel, these five musicians—selected from a large international pool of applicants—have participated in an intensive program of coaching, collaboration, and performance. Throughout the year, they have worked closely with an outstanding roster of internationally renowned jazz artists, including Allison Miller, Django Bates, Guillermo Klein, Ingrid Jensen, Ingrid Laubrock, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Kendrick Scott, Kris Davis, Lionel Loueke, Miguel Zenón, Jaleel Shaw, Michael Mayo, Mario Rom, Darcy James Argue, Linda May Han Oh, and Jonathan Blake.
Focusyear Band 26 now presents a program of original music composed by all five members and developed over the course of this year-long artistic journey. The result is music that is collective in spirit, interactive in form, and marked by intensity, openness, and a shared commitment to creative exploration.
