Fil Caporali
Fil Caporali, born in 1990 in São Paulo, Brazil, is a double bassist and composer based in Brussels since 2014. He began playing electric bass at 12, later studying at Universidade Livre de Música and earning a bachelor’s degree from Cantareira University (2012). He switched to double bass at 17 and holds a master’s (2016) and post-master’s (2018) from Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, where he is pursuing a PhD. Active in São Paulo’s jazz scene from 2011-2013, he has since performed across Europe, China, Taiwan, Panama, and Brazil with projects like Fil Caporali 5tet, Moanin’ Birds, and Le Monde Merveilleux de Pépito. His debut album, Fortune Teller (2017), blends Brazilian influences, jazz, and chamber music. Caporali received the Toots Thielemans Jazz Award in 2016.
