Moses Bayona Band •
The Moses Bayona Band, from Kinshasa, DRC, is a vibrant jazz and world music ensemble blending Congolese rhythms, rumba, jazz, and funk, inspired by Papa Wemba, Franco, and George Duke. Led by Moses Bayona, a former member of Papa Wemba’s group, the band’s vocalist and drummer began playing in church in 2006 and trained in jazz under Gabriel Wadigesila. In 2022, he was named Best Congolese Jazz Drummer at the Serge Gonthso Award by Kinshasa’s MCK. Formed in 2007 as the "Moses Band," they’ve collaborated with artists like Vivala Musica, featured in Fula Ngenge’s 2015 project, and contributed to *Molokai* and *Live de(s) Confinés* in 2020. Their repertoire fuses Kitweni rhythms, Congolese rumba, and funk, pushing musical boundaries. The band has performed at the Nairobi Jazz Festival, Francofolies de Kinshasa, Festival des Peuples Autochtones, Kinshasa Jazz Festival, Centre Wallonie Bruxelles, and Institut Français de Kinshasa. Follow the Moses Bayona Band as they redefine music with a global, cultural resonance.
