Steve Johns

Steve Johns, born November 25, 1960, in Boston, MA, is a dynamic jazz drummer and educator. Starting drums at age nine, he studied with Alan Dawson and attended the New England Conservatory. Since moving to New York in 1982, Johns has performed with jazz luminaries like Benny Carter, Stanley Turrentine, and the Count Basie Orchestra, appearing on over 70 albums. A member of the Mingus Big Band and Native Soul, he’s also co-led projects like No Saints, No Sinners. Johns teaches at Montclair State University and resides in NYC with his saxophonist wife, Debbie Keefe, and bassist son, Daryl.
