​Thijs van Scharen is a Belgian drummer and producer known for his innovative fusion of jazz, electronic, and experimental music. A graduate of the KASK & Conservatorium in Ghent, he developed his project AYATARU, which blends UK breakbeat, IDM, avant-garde hip-hop, and spiritual jazz into richly textured soundscapes .​

Van Scharen is also a member of Echofarmer, a trio that crafts intricate musical labyrinths through off-kilter grooves and organic textures . Additionally, he collaborates with producer Arne Nuyts in the duo Sleam Tomo, delivering improvised performances that merge live loops, deep grooves, and ambient soundscapes .

Beyond performing, van Scharen contributes to music education as part of the teaching team at the Jetse Academie, where he leads workshops in drums and jazz-pop-rock ensemble playing .
