Tomoko Omura is a violinist who makes the instrument speak in a language that is entirely her own. Born in Japan, based in Brooklyn, she brings classical precision and jazz freedom together in a way that feels both rooted and restless. Her Branches series drew on Japanese folklore and family stories; her latest album, Run, Run, Run, confronts the reality of nuclear warfare through an original short story and a through-composed suite. She has been named the #1 Rising Star Violinist by DownBeat, performed at the Village Vanguard and Newport Jazz Festival, and collaborated with artists from Paquito D'Rivera to Linda Oh. Her music is searching, cinematic, and deeply human.
