Universotropical •

Universo Tropical, a visionary project by Panamanian trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, is an evolving sonic tapestry that captures the essence of life in the tropical climate—its weight, light, love, and struggles. Joined by Brazilian artist Negro Leo and Singaporean sound innovator madamdata, Navarro expands this ongoing composition into a collaborative exploration of survival and resilience, inspired by the migrants crossing the Darién Gap. Premiered as a solo work and later presented at Panama City’s Diablo Rosso gallery on June 2, 2024, as the closing event for Donna Conlon’s exhibition Lo que mañana ya no será / What will no longer be tomorrow, the performance featured the track “Corazón” by Olof Melander with Navarro’s evocative trumpet. Produced by River Down Records, this concert embodied the label’s mission to develop and document Panama’s creative sound, delivering a profound musical journey from the soul of Panama.
