Musician, actress, performance artist, and educator, Çağıl Kaya brings a contemporary edge to singer-led jazz through Turkish lyrics, blending creative pop elements with jazz. Her music stands out with tightly woven compositions, thoughtful lyrics, and a hint of refined improvisation, shaped by an innovative artistic approach. Kaya’s work delves into personal, existential, and socio-political themes, offering both emotional depth and sharp insight.

With an academic background in Chemistry, Musicology, and Music Education, Kaya has collaborated with artists such as Ömür Gidel, Randy Esen, Elif Çağlar, and Sibel Köse. She has released three albums: Bir Parça Ay Biraz Kuş (A Piece of Moon and Some Birds) (2014), Şimdilik Her Şey Yolunda (So Far So Good) (2017), and Kaygılar Sahnesi (Stage of Anxieties) (2024). Her project, B’r Şeyler Eks’k (Something is Missing), now continues under the name Bas Konuş Bırak Dinle (Push Speak Release Listen), drawing inspiration from Steve Lehman & Sélébéyone, Kendrick Lamar, and Ambrose Akinmusire, blending jazz with elements of rap, spoken word, rock, and pop.

Having performed at major festivals including the Akbank Jazz Festival, Kaya also teaches jazz vocals and serves on the selection committee for Young Jazz+ at the Istanbul Jazz Festival, mentoring the next generation of jazz musicians.
